Biggest problem with the hot and cold methods is that neither the carbon post nor the aluminum tube change size much with temperature.

The last ditch method I've heard of is to cut off the post about an 1" above the cluster. Stick a hack saw blade inside the post and carefully saw through the wall of the post without cutting into the inside of the tube. (a tall task indeed). At that point you can put some lock jaws on the post and twist/roll the post away from inside the tube.
Yuck.
