Celebration Party - Feedback

Celebration Party - Feedback

I received both positive & negative feedback on the Celebration night.  I was told that many people think it is boring and many members do not attend because of the boredom.   I was told to move through the awards, way faster than I had wished to and could not acknowledge events, duties, & volunteers as much as I had preferred.   That's okay with me.  It is your club.  I'm planning next year I will change the format of the Awards.   Format for door prizes is probably traditional BBC, in that it advertises the bike shops.   What do you think?  What do you want the agenda to be for the 2012 End of Season Celebration?   Speak up.  This is your club.

Re: Celebration Party - Feedback

I haven't participated in a club event for over a year and I'm so glad I came last night.  I enjoyed every minute.  The awards part did go on longer than expected but it certainly didn't spoil my experience.  Great job, everybody!

Re: Celebration Party - Feedback

Let's see..."what do I want the agenda to be for the 2012 End of Season Celebration"?  I don't have the answer to that yet, but one thing  (unless I totally missed it this Saturday night, AND if it wasn't mentioned, then we as a club were certainly remiss) is to recognize Georgia Glashauser for the hard work and dedication that she puts into making this club what it is today!  I do not know all of the details of her efforts, but am aware that she put forth a lot of work to make sure that the awards and prizes were what they were...not only great prizes, but she did the wrapping of them as well.  On top of that, she ran the evening's agenda with aplomb!   It takes a lot of effort, unselfish dedication and a tough skin to man the helm of a club, and I personally think Georgia does this outstandingly!  We want to make sure that we remind her often of our gratitude for what she does, and not take it for granted!  FWIW.

Yeah, what Bill said. I had a good time, as always, and the food was way better than the American Legion slop of previous years. Thanks to all the people who made it happen.

Re: Celebration Party - Feedback

On behalf of the four person committee (Jayne Parks Ridgely, Tom Fedewa, Karen Davidson, and myself) I thank everyone for coming.  Doing the logistics  planning - and thanks for all your  help  - made the committee and me  realize the tremendous dedication and hard  work performed by people like Georgia Glashauser, Gloria Epstein, Bob Carson, and Mary and Barry Meene, and countless others; along with the ride leaders, to make sure things go smoothly.  Without these wonderful people, the BBC might not exist - or else be a shadow.  I thought it most appropriate that Georgia recognize and give Awards to Event Leaders and Key Volunteers. Georgia also lent a touch of humor.  The yellow End of Season Celebration program recaps the BBC's respective Events, ride leaders, club officers, and bike shops that have donated door prizes.  I'm  grateful to LBS (local bike shops) that repair our bikes, employ people, and provide mechanical services for our rides.  In my opinion, local bicycling  businesses also help  to give bicycling visibility and  credibility with  Md's influential business community .

I feel a key part of the evening is to give bicyclists a chance to socialize and renew old friendships.   We are scattered through a wide area and have  many different interests and riding categories.  Bringing everyone together for a night of recognition, door prizes and socializing is nice.

New ideas are always welcome.  It's an exciting time for bicycling.  Young people moving into the city are using bikes instead of cars.  Many groups incl the BBC and LBS's  are providing instructions to new riders.  Other groups and advisory committees, from Bike Maryland to Baltimore County Bicycle Master Plan Advisory,   are trying to connect with our   elected officals,, SHA  MVA, and planners   to improve cycling.  Mountain bikers are working hard to restore access to Loch Raven Resevoir.  Racing groups sponsor exciting  Events like the Kelly Cup in Patterson Park. The Kinetic Sculpture Race  shows creativity, engineering, and humor. Insurance companies and health professionals are supporting bicycling..  Some BBC members enjoyed  a fantastic tour of the Pacific Coast a couple months ago.  There's lots  to talk about. Give your suggestions to Gloria Epstein for the winter social.

I enjoyed it.  Timing of the awards was good, IMO.

Re: Celebration Party - Feedback

I thought the "End of Season Celebration" was a lot of fun. Everyone involved -- especially Jeffrey, Jayne, Tom, and Karen, but other volunteers also contributed -- deserves a big thank you, because it's a lot of work and not easy to pull off a big party like that.  (And as Janet noted, the food was a huge improvement over the American Legion menu.)

And the awards were fine!  It's a volunteer club.  Hundreds of hours are donated to make the BBC work smoothly and its events successful. And it's usually the same dedicated people year in and year out who do that work. The least we can do is take a little time to formally acknowledge their generosity.

Re: Celebration Party - Feedback

Hello,

Sorry I'm a little late with my comments.

Let's see, we had beer, wine, soda, coffee, appetizers, good food and cake. We got to sit where we wanted, got to chat with new/old friends. We were entertained by the people who do the work (they should be recognized). It was fun, informal, laidback and nice. We got the chance to win one of the many prizes, though I sat at the unlucky table.

:-(

And free to club members.

To the people that made this happen, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,

Mirfi
