Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Well, I was just going to let this go but I got a response from Cardin's people as well as Senator Raskin.

See the attached messages. I'll go if I can get a group together, or maybe just solo.

If you're interested please e-mail or call me.

Mr. Campbell,

I spoke to Delegate Cardin about your offer to come down on Monday. That is up to you and your group of friends, but we would happily welcome you if you are here.

If you do come down we can try and get media to cover the ride and we can get the group introduced by Delegate Cardin from the floor of the House of Delegates and Senator Raskin from the floor in the Senate.

If you have any questions please feel free to call my cell 410-960-0737 over the weekend.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Schwartz,
and Raskin

Senator Raskin thinks it would be great to have you all come down and he'd be happy to introduce you and talk to the press.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

I have only one day of vacation (contractor, snow week took it all away).  None-the-less keep us (well at least me) informed.  I may well consider taking the day off.  Key info of course is needed (ride start time / location and route).

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Terry,
Indeed, more details forthcoming. This is a last minute idea. I'm not really an organizer and not sure I expected this to happen so quick, but the session does end on Monday, the bill is up for a vote, and emotions are high after the terrible accident on Butler. I have some e-mails in to Cardin and Raskin regarding when a good time to arrive would be. I've ridden the route before, it's long but I would think some people could just park across the bridge or along the B&A if they can't or don't have time for the whole ride. I mean who would? I would of course need to do the whole ride.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

It certainly is time and with recent events emotions are high on this issue.  Can the members of BBC consider getting more than a few bikes to this?  Now is the time.  The weather will be as good as the political climate is.  If there is a cue / ride put it on the schedule.  Talk it up here and at the rides this weekend.  Post it on FB.  Post it on other local cycling groups.  Phone calls?  Yeah, I know, taking the day off can be difficult.  I'm not eager myself but I cannot think of a better political climate to do this in.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Terry,
That's great. I'll post a route later. Basically from Baltimore you head down to the BWi and then the B&A. You can even take light rail to Cromwell where the b&a starts. As far as number of cyclists, not sure. I've asked about when is a good time to be in Annapolis, still waiting.
If you have any contacts at other bike clubs, such as the Wheelmen, or OH Bike etc. please get the word out. I will be working on that tonight as soon as I get back frm dinner.

Already on it.  Post the ride details ASAP so I have something to tell them other than "there's a ride to Annapolis on Monday"

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Folks can park at Marley Station Mall, the Ranger Station etc and ride down to Annapolis from those points.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

I'm working on the route now and will post as a regular ride for Monday.
The time of the convergence is still yet undetermined.
Someone has spoken to Larry's widow and she would like to be in Annapolis but must be back in Baltimore by 3:00 to pick up her children.
More details to come, but this seems to be growing. I imagine a bunch of us will ride from baltimore and others will meet up on the B&A.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Terry,
The ride is posted. First time I've scheduled a ride so let me know if I've botched anything. There is a link to the route there. I may tweak it but it's a fairly simple route. As Nigel said people can park somewhere along the B&A, even as close as the bridge into Annapolis. I haven't got a time yet for when we meet in Annapolis but I'll keep you posted. Cardin's staff said they would have a better idea tomorrow.
Marc at RacePace is on it as is John Kelly who has quite a bit of political background. Marc also said that Larry's widow would like to be there. It looks very strong that this bill is going to pass but I think the ride may add extra weight and it's also a memorial ride in Larry's honor, bill or no bill. Stay tuned
