tandem upgrades

Ok folks-

I know the basic bike shops in the Balt area-

where would you take your tandem for some upgrades? ( I may want to have a braze on done for a new rear disc brake, later this summer)

your input is necessary- and appreciated!

Re: tandem upgrades

Tommy Nash at the Baltimore Bike Works on Falls Road is a builder who could do the brazing.  Chris Bishop is probably too busy.  However, before damaging paint and forcing a respray, spending all that money on the modification, I’d rather see about brake alternatives.  Can you go with optimizing your brakes with linear pull?  You’d be surprised how well tandems can stop without a disc or drum in back.  If you add a brake, you’ll need to double up one lever for two brakes and try to balance that, or add a thumb shifter or something similar to make it a drag brake.  I can discuss if you wish to email me off list.

Happy trails,

OK-- while we're chatting...

do you know anything about the trillium cantilever brakes?

they seems a little expensive, but they look really good...

Re: tandem upgrades

Check out Bike Forums discussion of the Trillium brake.  At least one other alternative is there too:
