Cycling Commentary in the Sun

Cycling Commentary in the Sun

One voice does have power.  While following the eight day Tour of California Bike Race on TV, I noted that there was no reporting in the Baltimore Sun paper about the race, or the Giro of Italy.  I emailed the Sport Senior Editor of the Sun regarding the lack of cycling coverage, especially after an American won a stage of the the Tour of California.  I mentioned the fact that he was missing a chance to connect with a lot of cyclists in the area; and that he might even sell more papers if he covered cycling.

Two days later I noted that cycling got a mention in the "In Brief" column of the Sports section.  On May 23, I emailed the Senior Editor of Sports again, thanking him for including cycling in the paper.  Each day since, there has been a cycling-related comment.  Today, Monday, there are six lines dedicated to the Giro!  Maybe positive reinforcement does work!

Once the word gets out, maybe the Sun will sell more papers as a result.

Re: Cycling Commentary in the Sun

Years ago had John Hollands (A local frame builder for all who don't know) do some work on my frame. While I was in his shop he commented that a sales rep for The Sun came in and asked if he wanted to put an ad in the paper. John then asked him back "Why should I pay to put an ad in your newspaper when you don't cover professional bike racing in the sport section". Guy acted dumb founded and left.
