2015 Civil War Century

2015 Civil War Century

I missed sign-up so I am planning on riding the route in reverse.  Is the map on The Civil War Century Website the route that will be used for 2015?  It seems to differ some from the route last year.  Thanks!

Re: 2015 Civil War Century

Hi, Jim,

I know you are a valued and long-time BBC member but I'm not sure I'm happy that you would ride the route even in reverse on Saturday.

We limit the number of riders to 1600 because the roads and towns we pass through can barely handle that number.  Plus, if you ride in reverse, that puts bikes on both sides of the road, making it even harder for cars to pass.

Volunteering is still an option but you'd need to send an email to the CWC mail-box today - ASAP

Do you know the date for the 2016 Civil War century?

Re: 2015 Civil War Century

I have the date on my calendar.  How can I obtain the cue sheet for the 2015 CWC full century?  I hope the 2015 century route is repeated for 2016.  I've been involved in the CWC for the past 10 years either as a rider or a volunteer and the 2015 route was the best one I've ridden.  The roads, for the most part, were in excellent condition and the route was challenging but not too taxing.
Thanks to the volunteers for a great job this past year.  The weather was challenging but everyone did a great job.

The volunteer version is in the cue library under Other Locations 50 miles +.

Re: 2015 Civil War Century

Actually, all three are in the Other Locations 50 miles + in the cue sheet library.  Generally, you want to ride the volunteer ride as Ed suggested when it isn't the actual CWC.  Remember the CWC has rest stops with food and drink and none of those exist on other days.  The volunteer ride makes minor changes to take you near/past refueling spots and into Boonesboro for lunch (usually at Subway).

Also note the third cue sheet for the ultra-evil CWC Reversed.  This is a longer, harder ride that goes up the steeper sides of the climbs in the back-end 2/3rds of the ride.  You need to conserve the first 30 miles across the cornfields with the wind at your back up to Gettysburg because when you hit the double of Jack's Mountain followed by Gladhill in reverse, you might find yourself walking like I did my first time!  If you find it too hard, you can turn left on RT-550 at that point and coast back to the start.
