How do you determine when Speedplay 'Zero' cleats are worn?

How do you determine when Speedplay 'Zero' cleats are worn?

With Speedplay x cleats, there wears a visible flat spot
on the spring that tells you when it's time for new cleats.
On the 'zero' cleats, there is no obvious wear..my question is
how do you know when it's time (or more importantly, PAST time)
to change them??

I thought the answer would be obvious. They are worn when you begin to have trouble "clicking" in, or more importantly "clicking" out:-O!???

I considered mine as worn when I wore an indentation in the black plastic plate that caused the pedal not to sit flush against the plate or when I've bent or broken the spring.
