I guess that means everyone coming from the "west" (south?) will be coming in on RT 159 which is even worse than RT 715--zero shoulder, narrow lanes and a high amount of tractor trailer traffic.

MDSHA's contractors are making RT 715 a bear to travel on by bike or by car with all of the construction that's going on.  There's nearly no shoulder and what little there is--is partially obstructed by orange barrels. There's gravel and rocks all over the shoulders.  And now, there's three metal plates to negotiate on the inbound side of RT 715.  Two of them now have the edges buffered for bike, but the original one still has sharp raised edges.  I have to bunny-hop onto plate if I want to keep my speed up. If these plates are still around this winter, they will be a slippery hazard.

With the influx of people from BRAC, traffic has grown, but the road was not converted/widened prior to more people living and working in the area. Now, it seems that MDSHA is scrambling to catch up, but I'm positive they will get caught out by winter before they're done.

This winter's bike commute from Essex to APG will be a great challenge to endure this winter.  I may be forced to drive at some point.

My intention is to be at the gates to Ft. McHenry Sunday morning, if I can get through this week.

See here for why:

It was good seeing, you, too, Nigel. Thanks for the introductions to Donna Norfleet and Erica Kane.

I guess folks who rode the Tour du Port got a taste of our crappy roads in Essex and Middle River.

I happen to be riding my own ride:

...which intersected or paralleled or followed the TdP's route.  I didn't realize until I started heading home from riding out to Ft. Howard and North Point State Park that the route pushed over the Back River Bridge and headed to Rocky Point Park.

You may be able to get some action through this:

BUT! Because it's not a numbered road, MDSHA may defer to county.  Hopefully, if they do, they'll forward your request to the county.

Section of the B&A trail closed due to recent rains.

Going south, make a left after crossing the bridge on to Light St. You can follow it on the road all of the way to the ranger station where you can jump back on to the B&A from there.

Here's a map of the way I took yesterday (Sunday):
