My attempt at snow riding after the blizzard of February (5-6) 2010

You know that I had to try:

It just wouldn't be me to not try to ride in this snow. So, now, I can say that I did (sort of). I most certainly burned a bunch of calories trying to stay on the bike. I even tried to let some air out of the tires, but in the deeper stuff (what icebike.com calls road snow and chocolate mousse*) I just didn't have aggressive enough lugging to maintain traction.

Oh well. Tomorrow will be better.

Now, there's a snow plow truck stuck in front of my house and the CAT plow couldn't even get the truck loose:

Here's the view I have out my front and back doors:

My curiosity is piqued--wondering if I can negotiate snow this deep on the Ridley. Would it be fun or a miserable mess?  TBD

So, Terry, what do you do to keep from being bored on the trainer? TV and videos? Music?

Pretty much.  Been on the bike 4x a week most of January.  Now up to 5x a week.  Getting about 8 hours a week on the bike right now.  In the past, it's been a mental challenge to commit that often to trainer work but not been as difficult this winter.  Even got a ride in on the trainer just over 3 hours on Sunday.

You have more discipline than I, for sure. My brain goes numb too quickly on the trainer. I do better on the rollers, but best outside.

Contrary [edit]  to riding, I expect this February has been more consistent for me than any Feb since 2007.  Seems all the years trying to put up with the trainer have paid off and and I can better deal with it this winter.

More consistent how, Terry. Are you sticking to a schedule?

I don't find this site a good source of information--yet.  We need more people to post on this board. It's a discussion board, not a listserv, so let's discuss!

If you don't want email for responses to anything you post, you can set that as the default behavior for your session OR uncheck the Subscribe option after you compose your new topic.

So, what's going on in your neck of the woods with this snow?

What's the last thing your purchased for your bike?

Carbon? Ti? Steel? Which one is the best?

My bike is so light... -How light is it?-  It's so light that________________
