Warning and Feedback on the Conover Road Bridge
Forum: Road Problems

It is easy to read, but you're correct - coming from the east, that's a nice hill and it's easy to carry speed. I'm shocked anyone rides over it successfully. There are some very uneven joints, and hitting one will easily wipe you out. Perhaps you managed to pick the one safe path over it. You're a brave man to attempt it twice!

Thanks, Ed. Did you let the county know about your crash? I was at least successful in getting a sign 650 feet (instead of 100 feet) before the bridge, but I wish the messaging were stronger (dismount instead of slow down).

Thanks, Jim! I've been in touch with Greg. Have also tried Ed, just haven't heard from him yet.

Thanks, Jim. I was able to get a new sign 650 feet (instead of 110) before the bridge heading west. The problem I'm running into is proving that the county knew there was a problem b/c even though we know there have been accidents, they weren't reported to the county. If I can demonstrate knowledge, I have a better chance of getting more than a sign change (like a bridge surface change).  I'll keep searching...thanks!

I'm 4 weeks into recovery after my training partner and I both had a nasty crash on this bridge. He got 40+ stitches around his eye, 12 in his knee, and broke a finger.  I tore my left tricep, broke my elbow, and broke my hand (all required surgery) plus minor breaks in fingers on my right hand, and some nasty road rash.

'm trying to get a sense of whether Frederick or Carroll counties were aware of this nasty bridge. Please let me know if you've had an accident on this bridge and if you reported it. I'd like to do what I can so this doesn't happen to anyone else.
