As of mid-May, Anne Arundel County Dept of Public Works officials expected Rutland Road to be re-opened by the first week in July.
For additional information, see http://www.aacounty.org/DPW/Highways/ro … uction.cfm .

Sunday's 13-15mph 44-mile "Circle the Scenic Severn" ride in Anne Arundel County is canceled due to wet weather, wet roads, and the threat of rain and thunderstorms later.

Mike,

You've got the wrong road name.  Harwood Road is NOT closed.  (FYI, Harwood Road is about 7 miles south of Rt. 450 (Defense Hwy.) and does not intersect it.)

The road that is closed is Rutland Road just south of Rt. 450, between Crownsville and Davidsonville.  The closed section of road extends from Rt. 450 to approximately Lavall Dr.

There is a barricade across Rutland Road to prevent access.  The southbound lane has a large steel plate over it, apparently to cover a hole in the road.  There is a backhoe and several lengths of corrigated steel culvert pipe sitting nearby.  It appears that the culvert pipe that crosses underneath the road is being replaced.  Saturday (3/20/2010) it was possible to lift a bike over the barricade, walk past the steel plate, and continue beyond the construction site.  However it appears that further work will occur shortly.

I did not see this project listed on the Anne Arundel County road construction web page (http://www.aacounty.org/DPW/Highways/ro … ction.cfm), which is updated weekly.

Suggested detour (if attempting to head south on Rutland Rd.) is to take Rt. 450 West about 3 miles, turn left on Rt. 424 for 0.2 mile, then turn left on Bell Branch Rd. and follow 2.1 miles back to Rutland Rd.  (Reverse this detour if heading north on Rutland Rd.)

Bud,

Since the original date of your ride (March 13) has already passed, you can go ahead and make the change you described, especially since you have a duplicate listing for that date.

1. Log on with your user name and password.
2. Go to the ride calendar and click on your ride listing.
3. Your detailed ride listing will appear in a white box in the center of the screen.  Near the top of the box there should be a "Edit" button and a "Delete" button.  Click the "Edit" button.
4. Make the necessary changes to your ride listing, then click "Save".
