Hope the weather changes -- lots of wind & rain here in LSD after a lovely, but still windy Saturday.

Happy Anniversary BBC -- I still remember my first club century the Hunt Valley Hundred, maybe in 1986 when I moved back to Baltimore from Houston.  I rode my Trek 520 touring bike, that I still have (and would like to sell size 50 or 52, small & cheap). I finished the ride with about 99.5 miles.  I then rode around the parking lot until I hit 100.0 on the old Avocet 20 computer, which I also still have in a box someplace.

Looking forward to getting lost on the Burnout ride because that is the things we Burnouts do.

Hoping to see a few familiar faces and some new folks too.

Hopefully MT "It's a gift" will make the ride this year.  In addition, the 4-strokers are invited to join the fun & maybe meet us for lunch (George B., Turbo Boy, etc.).

Forum: Ride Reports

I rode Marg's ride in Ellicott City on SA because it was early and the weather forecast was rainy.  The ride was a good one, the group was nice and the pace comfortable.  Thanks Marg!

I needed to stay close to home Sunday so I re-road the route without the cue sheet since I enjoyed the ride and to see if I could remember it (no problem).  I heard the rain Saturday night and did not look at the news and the internet.  The first issue I encountered yesterday was my inability to ride through Patapsco State Park because a large tree was down on the main road in and the road had about 2 inches of mud.  I rode around the park and re-joined the cue sheet finding several more issues from the rain -- a sinkhole on Montgomery Road, a small section of road washed away on Beechwood. and River Road was a muddy mess with a tree and electric line down.  Then I made it to Frederick road and found the damage to Ellicott City and was shocked by what I saw.  The road was a muddy mess, the Patapsco river was muddy and high and there were probably 10 cars in the river.  Several cars looked like they has been in a demolition derby.  I rode to the bridge in EC and it was closed by the police.  Lots of damage could be seen though.

I rode home, cleaned the bike and then looked at the news about EC.  It is terrible what happened.  My sympathy to everyone affected.  It sounds like the county, state, etc. will help with the rebuilding of this wonderful little town.

Thanks Carl!

I was looking for a ride on Sunday so this will likely be it.

Cue sheet needed for this ride
Category: Social

I saw the "Happy Pain Happy" ride on the calendar in May and would like to obtain a copy of the cue sheet.

I have ridden "Happy Happy Pain Pain" before and suffered a lot and am curious to see what "Happy Pain Happy" is like.

My e-mail address is feltb2  at  yahoo  dot  com

Thanks!

I registered for the GCGF last year, but the event rained out.  As a result the organizers provided a 40% discount for 2016 registration which has been used.

In addition, they provided a code that I can share with others that are interested in participating.  The code provides an 8% discount on the registration fee.

The code is 9SG10579T96912802.

The code can be used five times during regular registration which opens February 1st.

I have done this ride three times in the past and it is without any doubt the hardest ride I have ever done.

A couple in the Catonsville area:

1.  Gun Road leaving Patapsco Valley State Park Avalon -- the bottom leaving the park seems tough, but so is everything these days ...
2.  Arbutus Memorial Park Cemetery -- I rode and ran the mile +/- loop within the cemetery during the summer (very little traffic!) and there is a hill that is not even 1/10 of a mile, but is literally a killer

I think Gunpowder Road north of Beckleysville Road is the toughest road climb wise in Baltimore County.  This is based on perceived exertion and nothing else.

Century route for Saturday

I missed sign-up so I am planning on riding the route in reverse.  Is the map on The Civil War Century Website the route that will be used for 2015?  It seems to differ some from the route last year.  Thanks!

Warning and Feedback on the Conover Road Bridge
Forum: Road Problems

One of the bridge's victims above is Ed Chill who is the club president.  I do not know whether his accident was reported to either county or not.  I know he is on a cycling vacation this week so he is probably not checking the forum here, but he should be back next week.

The original poster is Greg Conderacci and it sounds like he needed an ambulance to take him for urgent care.  I think Ed or others in the club can reach out to Greg for some feedback from him.
