Greetings all:

Baltimore County bike advocates would love for many cyclists to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Towson Bike Loop. I feel it is important to show our support to the local politicians. They are beginning to understand the importance of cycling infrastructure in our county.  Bike lanes/signage are beginning to appear throughout the county. While many serious cyclist do not 'need' bike lanes, please think about those that do need them, kids, grand-kids, moms, dads, grandparents etc. So please take a few moments and attend.  Use your lunch time, an hour of vacation time, ATTEND, Be seen, Do it for the kids!!!
Thanks, Charlie

8Washington tour, very nice. Enjoy it.  Eagerly await your trip report on WVa.  I will post when I tour next. I am sure I will head out somewhere later this summer or fall.  I have been researching the BRP for fall or next spring.  Rather stout for self supported touring so needs a lot of planning.

Here's my route for my WVa trip, the last climb @ mile 140 damn near killed me.

How was the bike tour?  I did a similar version a few years back but included Canaan Valley and Dolly Sods.  The West Fork Trail was only a grass field but ride-able, the hills nearby atrocious(especially the ones on dirt/gravel) but I had a lot of fun.  Some of the best camping can be had in this area with views unparalleled.

Please post a trip report as it might inspire a few others to tour.

I would also love to see this topic have it's own forum.

Do post again if you plan another tour. I would love to join you.  I am experienced in unsupported solo touring.

Thanks, Charlie

Hey folks:  Here's some info from Nates blog as to the time and place for the helmet law hearing:
The Environmental Matters Committee will hold a public hearing on HB 339 (Required Use of Protective Headgear) on Tuesday, February 20th at 1pm in the Lowe House Office Building in Annapolis.  Delegate Maggie McIntosh has an excellent bill passage record.  There’s no reason to believe this bill will be different.  A roomful of cyclists with supportive data will help bring reason to this debate!
If you plan on testifying at the hearing, you must sign in 30 minutes prior to the bill hearing. If you plan on submitting written testimony, please bring 40 copies and submit one hour prior to the hearing.  For more information, call the Environmental Matters Committee at 410-841-3990.
Support biking in Maryland by opposing this bill!  Do not assume others will speak up for your rights!  WABA and Bikemore oppose this bill, but some biking organizations are remaining neutral.  Do not let Maryland become the only state in the union to require helmets for all ages!

Hey folks:  I use a helmet on every ride but do not want the politicians telling us we have to. I have worked with a bunch of cyclist in the last year where police did not issue a single citation to motorists responsible for car accidents involving cyclists. Not a single citation even though some had witnesses or the motorist was obviously at fault.  Yet some politicians seem hellbent on "making" us wear helmets while allowing motorist a free pass.
Many people feel differently about using a helmet.  That is not what this is about.  I often hear in the media after a cyclist is involved in a crash...."the cyclist was not wearing a helmet".  Yeah, like that is the reason for the crash.

......  Glad we don't have to do a Bob Wagner memorial ride. It would have to be a hundred miles and I would feel compelled to go on it.

And it would be held in winter with no support:)

Are you still interested in obtaining a Counterpoint Opus? I have an Opus II -- not sure how old it is, but it must be at least 15. Let me know if you want to know more.

Hi Dorothy:  Is this still for sale?  Thanks Charlie

Baltimore Bike Party sponsored Bob Moores Moonlight Madness ride last night.  All I can say is WOW!!  Over 700 cyclists, cheering locals, respectful drivers, wonderful police assistance at major intersections and concluding with a party at Wyman Park Dell, music, dancing, food, beer and smiles.  Bob Moore would be proud.
