Why
Join Team BBC ? ? ?
TEAM BBC is
a subset of the Baltimore Bicycling Club (BBC), an organization that promotes
cycling in the Baltimore metropolitan area and throughout Maryland. The team
began with the 1999 racing season and our goals are simple: get stronger and
have fun. As such, we offer a low key approach that’s an excellent training
ground for new racers.
Our team provides free fitness training from
Krista Schultz, an exercise physiologist and personal trainer. Krista emails a
novice and a more advanced program each month from the fall through the end of
the racing season. Tim Straw is an accomplished racer who has competed at the
highest levels in Belgium. He teaches basic skills and strategy. Krista’s
fitness program and Tim’s racing fundamentals allow our novice riders to become
competitive very quickly. On our password-protected Members Only
Page, we provide Racing 101, Strategy 101, and Sprints
& Intervals articles.
TEAM BBC is primarily
composed of cat 3 and 4 women; and cat 4, cat 5 and 50+ men. We are truly a
co-ed team. To foster communication, we maintain a team directory and an email
list. During the fall and winter, we offered a Saturday training ride from
Oregon Ridge in northern Baltimore County to keep teammates connected in the
off-season.
TEAM BBC also has a host of great sponsors
listed on our Sponsors
Page. They provide monetary support and/or significant discounts on
products and services as spelled out on our Members Only
Page which will be available once you join. Our shop sponsor is Joe’s
Bike Shop in Mt. Washington.
We left the best reason to join until last,
our team clothing. Our gear was designed by the very talented Maryland
Institute-trained artist, racer Janet Olney, and it’s the coolest in the Middle
Atlantic Bike Racing Association. Our jerseys are hot, hot pink!
It costs
$25 per year to join TEAM BBC. Since our parent club pays for our
coach; the Baltimore Bicycling Club (BBC) requests that team members become BBC
members. It’s also $25 per year. A BBC newsletter describing weekend rides and
special events is published every two months. A team jersey is approximately
$50, and a USA Cycling racing license is $60 per year. That’s all one needs
except for a bike!
