Monument to Monument Ride on May 4

The Monument to Monument (M2M) Ride is a 97-mile round trip single day ride from Baltimore to Washington on lightly trafficked roads. Riders maintain a slow, steady conversational pace. Last year over 75 riders participated, and pictured on the left are riders from the 2012. Want to learn more? Check out ride leader Bob Wagner's blog.

April 6th Picnic Ride

From left to right: Cathy, Briana, Jay and Steve at Gettysburg; these are just 4 of the 20-some riders on our April 6 Picnic Ride. Read ride report for more details.

2014 Spring Social

Despite the rainy and dreary night, spirits were high as 100 BBC members and guests descended on St. Pius X Catholic Church, Saturday, March 29, for the annual Spring Social. The crowd enjoyed a wonderful evening of socializing and much more. Check out our report and photos.

Israel Ride 2013

"After this, my first organized ride, the joy of riding has inspired me to become a lifelong biker and given me the ability to throw away a previous image of a sedentary old age."

Susan Patz, Baltimore Bicycle Club member

Read Susan's personal story from Israel Ride. Interested in making your own journey there? Learn more at a local meeting April 9 at Race Pace in Owings Mills or online.

Plus check out Bike Maryland's 2014 Maryland Pride Cycling Jersey and Wicking T-Shirt.

Team BBC Launches New Website

Team BBC has been working hard over the off season to introduce a new website. This site was built entirely by our talented teammates. The new tools will allow us to use one URL as a communication hub. The site is still at TeamBBC.net. Special thanks to Russel Lebo of data:ink:io for being the mastermind behind this build.

February 20 Jarrettsville to Delta Loop

This is a favorite cold weather out and back route because of the wide shoulders on Rt. 165 and the rest stop at Buon Gusto pizzeria. In spite of the low temps, we ended the ride with a stop at Jarrettsville Creamery for ice cream. Pictured are Bill W., George C., Rich B. and Gloria E.

Baltimore County Receives National Recognition for Complete Street Policy

Baltimore County was recently ranked sixth among 83 communities in the U.S. for its Complete Streets programs. Established by the Baltimore County Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee (PBAC), the policy ensures that all new roads will be built in consideration for pedestrians, bikers, drivers, and those using public transportation. See Baltimore Sun article for more details.

As the advocacy arm of the Baltimore Bicycle Club, Bike Maryland helped promote the Complete Streets Resolution.

February 2 New Windsor Pancake Breakfast Ride

Not all sixteen hearty souls are captured in the photo, but be assured that everyone who stopped for the all you can eat meal was smiling. As usual, the food was delicious and plentiful. We needed the calories to get back to South Carroll High School. Check the ride schedule for upcoming pancake rides. You'll find two posted each month.

BBC Annual Meeting a Great Success

A record 166 members attended the Annual Awards Dinner and meeting. The Committee headed up by Jeffrey Marks (pictured) did a fantastic job. Thanks, Jeff. In addition to a terrific dinner provided by Bear Brothers Catering, the club elected a new board and gave out major awards. See program for names and details. Additional awards will be presented at the Spring Social on March 28.

We didn't know it, but our new President, Ed Cahill, is a legend among the Howard County General Hospital scene. Some of our members thought you might like to know a bit more about Ed.

Thanks, Ed, for picking up the baton.

Team BBC News

Baltimore Bicycle Club's racing team, Team BBC, has had an incredible year. Check out highlights in the Team BBC 2013 Year End Report.

For 2014, Team BBC's pink jersey will have a new design, refined colors, and a new manufacturer. View the new design on the Voler website. If you missed this year's order, team apparel will be available at Baltimore Bicycle Works in mid-March.

We Can't Get Enough Pizza!

Michael Newmeyer, owner of Michael's Pizza, 16952 York Road in Monkton, MD, is pictured with Bill W., George C., Gloria E., & Rich B. On the January 13, 2014 Short Ride To Hereford, these four Baltimore Bicycle Club (BBC) riders thoroughly enjoyed a veggie pizza. Michael's Pizza is one of BBC's favorite bike ride pizza stops. Mike makes a delicious pizza. All calories consumed seemed to burn away as riders pedaled up and down hills back to Hunt Valley.

Mount Carmel Chicken Finally Discovered!

Two years ago I went on the Mt. Carmel-Westminster Loop ride and was told there was a chicken statue that could not possibly be missed. Well, I missed it and requested a repeat of the ride this season. The day was slightly damp and very cloudy, but the Chicken still stands on the side of a pond. In addition to seeing the Chicken, one of my sunglass lenses popped out, and I look a bit askew in this picture. I am not certain the Hoffman Mill Road hill was worth climbing just to see a chicken, but I am grateful to Cindy Wyatt for leading this ride, for my benefit.

CRABS Jerseys are Travelling Again!

Couples Riding a Bike Simultaneously (CRABS) rode from Havre de Grace, MD to Delta, PA. David and Brenda Jaffe, first time ride leaders, led the 50-mile ride with other CRABS tandem riders and some CRABS wannabes through bucolic Harford County, Susquehanna State Park, and some of Maryland's best horse and farm country. They crossed the border to Delta, PA and stopped for lunch. The ride was fairly hilly, but had spectacular views and quiet roads. David and Brenda are warming up for their 350-mile bike ride in Israel this fall. Pictured from left to right are David Jaffe, Greg Alexander, Julia Alexander, and Brenda Jaffe.
