AWARDS DINNER SAT NOV 17, 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Our club's Nov 17th Awards Dinner will celebrate the BBC's 50th Anniversary.  Don't miss this Historic Event.  This festive evening provides an opportunity to recognize our many wonderful BBC volunteers, talk to people you haven’t   seen for awhile, discuss the past Year’s rides and activities, and make plans for 2019.  The spacious Oregon Ridge Ski Lodge (remember when this was a ski area) has high ceilings, an inviting atmosphere, and a large fireplace with a real fire.  Bear Bros Catering will prepare an enhanced buffet, including items such as fresh grilled salmon and fresh roasted turkey breasts; along with a nice selection of complimentary beer and wine.  The caterer's 1 day liquor license also allows you to bring your own choice alcoholic beverage(s).

The Awards Dinner is free for BBC members.  An individual one year membership is only $20 and allows one person to come free.  A Family one year membership (two adults and their children living in the same household) is only $30 and allows the parents and their children to come free.  Non members may come as Guests for $30 pp ($15 pp for children 12 and under).  Make the check for guest(s) payable to “The Baltimore Bicycling Club” and mail to : Jeffrey H. Marks, 3736 Clarinth Road, Baltimore, Md. 21215.

Before you register for the Awards Dinner as a member, Jeffrey would appreciate if you would verify that your BBC Membership is active.  To check, log in to the BBC website at and click on “Account Maintenance in the “Member Menu”.  If the website doesn’t show you as a member, or your membership will expire before November 30th, (the website will  send you 2 or 3 renewal notices prior to expiration provided you haven’t changed your email), you should renew ASAP.  Mouse over “Membership Renewals” in the top banner menu and click the membership type that you want, keeping in mind  that a “Family Membership” allows the entire family living in the same household to come free.  Then you may renew/join either electronically or by printing and mailing in the membership application.  In the unlikely event that there’s a renewal discrepancy  between your records and the BBC website, e-mail explaining the discrepancy.

When you register for the Awards Dinner with Jeffrey, please indicate if your membership is current, if you renewed in the last 30 days, or if you are clearing up a membership discrepancy.  The best way to register is via email at  Jeffrey will then  email you back a confirmation.  Or, if you need to call, Jeffrey’s number is 410-358-1321. When registering,  list your name as it appears on the BBC Roster.  Since the club needs to let the caterer know how many people are coming, and to let Oregon Ridge know how many tables we need;  please register by Wed, Nov 7 - early registration appreciated.  If you need to cancel, please let Jeffrey know by Nov 9, so the caterer doesn't charge us for "no shows..  I’m looking forward to seeing you at this fun Event.

The Fourth Annual

June 8 - 10, 2018

Come to Greencastle, Pennsylvania the weekend of June 8 - 10 for one, two or three days of cycling in the breathtakingly beautiful Cumberland Valley.  Here you will find a cyclist's paradise with a network of well-maintained, low-traffic roads laid down on a gently rolling landscape of farms, villages and small towns, framed by soft blue mountain backdrops in almost any direction you look.

There are rides for every level of ability and ambition.  Participants can choose from a selection of more than 20 rides, ranging in length from a short 30-mile jog to Mercersburg to a phenomonally scenic century into the heart of Pennsylvania's Appalachian ridge and valley region.  Most of the rides, including the century, can be characterized as gently rolling to rolling, with an occasional hill.

All rides start and end in the north (last) parking lot of Antrim Township Community Park on Grant Shook Road.  The park has water and restrooms.  Start times are 9:30 a.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Rides are leaderless and without SAG support, and participants must sign liability waivers at the start of each ride, just as they would if they were going on a normal BBC weekend ride.

Two evening social functions are planned:  an informal gathering on Friday evening at Brother's Pizza

(next to the Comfort Inn) and a Saturday evening dinner at The John Allison Public House, which has reasonably-priced entrees and a great selection of craft beers on tap.

Lodging is left up to the participants.  The Comfort Inn across from I-81 Exit 3 is recommended.  Each room has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, television and free Wi-Fi, and a complimentary breakfast is included.  Rates range upward from about $90 per night, depending on when and through which agency you book your room.  The Super 8 on PA 16 just east of Exit 5 offers the same amenities, including a free breakfast, but has smaller rooms and lower rates ($60 to $70 per night).  Finally, for completeness I should mention the Castle Motel (NOT the Castle Green Motel) on US 11 just north of town, which offers a CLEAN room with all the amenities offered by the other two motels, minus the free breakfast, for under $30 per night.  Unfortunately, the Castle Motel has only eight units and is almost always booked up.  There are also plenty of motels just off of I-81 in Hagerstown and Chambersburg, as well as a couple of bed-and-breakfasts in Greencastle.
