Careful out there!

Careful out there!

It seems [already] with this increase in temperature that drivers are becoming more aggressive toward bicyclists. I had a couple near passes, today, on the way home from work.

Do I really need to start riding with a video camera again?

Re: Careful out there!

Our safe passing bill may be stuck in the House Environmental Matters Committee (again) It might be an interesting approach if you got car details (License # and description) and reported it to Balto City or County police as well as Delegate Sheryl Glenn.

Personally I think riding with a video camera is like getting Murphy's Law to work in your favor, as nothing happens when it's running. current/wink

Re: Careful out there!

I decided that I was not going to get passed aggressively again, today, or boxed into the right lane, so I took the lane--the left lane on this road:

Yesterday, the traffic was so heavy, I couldn't make my left hand turn at Golden Ring Rd [something changed, recently--this use to be a very quiet road with one or two cars at a time.]  They wouldn't let me move left, so that's why I took the lane from Rossville Blvd to Golden Ring Rd, today.

I guess that the way it's going to be from now on.

Re: Careful out there!

It's funny how one's mind will work on problems "in the background" / unconsciously.

On the way home, yesterday, my brain proposed this route and I followed it's proposal:

[Red = old route down Kelso Dr to Golden Ring Rd]

It was definitely less stressful than riding 1/2 a mile in the left lane of a 35 MPH road. The road surface is not as good from Compass Rd to Golden Ring Rd, but overall, it feels like it has a better BLOC (Bicyclists Level Of Comfort score), especially now that Kelso Rd has become so busy and with no facilities for cyclists.

Re: Careful out there!

I see your route going up 40 now.  Are you in Aberdeen now?  If so, we need to coordinate and maybe bike-pool every once in awhile (if you don't mind slowing down).

Hi Stephen.

We haven't moved to Aberdeen yet. It was suppose to happen by the end of last year, but the landowners at the time fell into financial difficulties, so we had to wait until that got settled.

So, I'm still commuting to Towson, for now.
