guide lines for cancelling rids.

guide lines for cancelling rids.

I'm leading a ride on Saturday.  The weather looks a little iffy.  Are there guidelines for cancelling a ride?

thanks,
Joan

Joan - This is the policy according to the club web site (it's under General Information - Ride Categories), but I think the decision to cancel is up to the ride leader:

"BBC Ride Cancellation Policy -- If, one hour before a scheduled ride, the official weather report for the ride start area predicts rain or strong winds, the ride may be cancelled. If you are in doubt, call the Ride Leader. For the weather forecast, use weather.com or the TV weather channel."

In my opinion, the decision on whether or not to cancel is ENTIRELY in the hands of the ride leader. (I am one of the 16+ ride coordinators.)

If it looks dangerous to you, cancel!  In the winter I would especially look at the possibility or probability of black ice on the back roads in the shadows.  Snow on very cold roads can be dangerous too.
