SevenTowns SevenValleys SevenWinds

SevenTowns SevenValleys SevenWinds

Monday's 4/9/2012 Seven Towns and Seven Valleys Ride again demonstrates it is a fantastic ride!
Ten riders came out for a sunny but windy day, including Janet G who rode up from WRP for the ride.
We also had Jon, Marybeth, Susanne, Jeff, Emily, Roger, and Jeb.  And I left a cuesheet on the car for Ross who had to start 25 minutes late and didn't catch until ride end.
The first 10 miles to Manchester had us riding into the teeth of the wind.  Wind that I measured at mostly 10 mph with frequent forward motion inhibiting gusts.  We got a slow up view of the big Chicken on Maple Grove Rd.
Wind was from the WNW and so when we turned in Manchester we picked up a tailwind which mostly held until near the end on Traceys Store.
We had sun for entire ride and overall I did 16.9 with 4100 ft of climb.

The image below is of my wind and elevation data.  The white trace of the speed line is bike speed, the blue above (headwind) or below (tailwind) the trace is the wind speed.

Oh my. I was so close to rolling up there to meet you. Would've been fun too. Love York and Adams co. riding.
Great color charts Steve. Looks like a birthday cake.

Re: SevenTowns SevenValleys SevenWinds

Stopped for Pizza at Mignano Bros. w/ John and Marybeth then somehow lost them on the way back.  Rode on my own through Prettyboy and saw a great Bald Eagle circling the water.  I stopped and watched it put on quite a show to the dismay of a red-tailed hawk and a raven. Went back today for a recovery ride but no hawk.  It was very quiet and I saw many other birds and blooming trees though.

The source of wind data is from an iBike mounted on my handlebars and processed with associated software.
The iBike has sensors for wind, barometric altimeter, inclination, and acceleration.

For your interest the image below is processed by the Weather Plugin for SportTracks.  This is based on analysis of the gps track and historical data from wunderground stations.
