Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Perhaps Marley Mall might be a point to attract some media attention. I'll ride down past the harbor in the am, if nothing else than to be visible to the traffic there.

Let us know when you post the cue Terry.

Posted on the site here about 20 mins ago.  Is in the Baltimore County under 50 miles group.
Don't think there is a way to post it on FB.

Just search in Memorial or Bensky.  Should show up.  Just did for me.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Got it; thanks Terry.

OK, I will meet the group coming from Roland at Sharp St & the Convention Center on the Convention Center side of the road. I will plan to be there by 8:30am which should have me there early enough to catch the group.

For other Fed Hill/Locust Point riders - I'll be heading from little Belt up Clement to Gittings, over to William, down to the Science Center, along the path by the Science Center to the Visitor's Center, X Light St to Conway and up to the Convention Center. I'm not sure what time I'll be leaving just yet; likely leave my house at 8am to give some time along the waterfront. (Trying to contact media to stir up an interest for something there.)

I am going to print off several copies of House Bill 461 to have to give out to people; also have a banner or such with info and the web address.

Harry - have you talked to the manager at the Starbucks where you are starting? Perhaps they could get involved in some way and alert other stores along the way about the ride. Good publicity for them also, though they may be hesitant unless corporate signs off on it.

Also, is there a reason, other than some obvious ones, why this will not be BBC official or sanctioned? I think it would come across better if there was an actual group or club behind it rather than just a *perceived* semi-organized gaggle of riders. Thoughts?  I did send an email to the contact listed at One Less Car but perhaps Barry has already done that. I'll see what's up at Light Street when I walk over to the game.

I was thinking the same thing.  Let me know if I should print out a release form and have it on hand at Marley.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

Got it already Terry. But it might not hurt to have more than one.

I emailed BSun, WJZ & WBAL. Perhaps if we all did they might think more about covering it. Again more random thoughts from a mountain biker who gets people lost when he rides on the road. Perhaps it's best not to listen too closely to me.

I posted to WBAL-TV also.  They e-mailed me back asking to the cue and I sent it to them.

I'll print out a waver since I can get that out of the way while we wait for the groups further up north to make it to Marley.

Re: Ride to Annapolis on Monday?

On the post I responded to had a 9:30 start times for both Marley Station and Cromwell Light rail Station. That was my confusion.

So working backwards (at my pace) and leaving some time for the slower riders to pull in by noon: Annapolis 11:30 - 14mi/1 hour = Marley Station 10:30, - 3mi/15min = 10:15 Cromwell Station

I just got off the phone with Harry and the set times as far as he is concerned is 8:00 Starbucks on Roland and 9:30 Cromwell Station. So basically we have 45 minutes to play with. So tentatively say Cromwell @9:30 (but leave 9:45.) Say Marley @10:00 (but leave 10:15)

That's my 2 cents

(BTW I had a brain fart calculating Warner and Haines St time... make that like ~8:20 )

Will change FB to show this.

FYI:  Going out for a ride in about 30 mins.

The Jack Yates memorial ride was very successful with just a gaggle of riders. In a lot of ways having average Joes show up is a lot more compelling then Lance wannabes racing team showing up or other media negative spin terms. I don't understand why club members are considered fanatics when there would be no club if it did not appeal to average people but sometimes that is the way the press perceives us.  My 2 cents is; clubs are certainly welcome to have reps on the ride but the ride should be by the community of concerned cyclists.
