The corn Roast

The corn Roast

Remind us; Why does the BBC support the Old Fashioned Corn Roast Festival?

Re: The corn Roast

I believe it is goodwill; we travel their local roads a LOT, so we support their Corn Roast.

Re: The corn Roast

The Corn Roast Ride is one of my favorite club events. All the rides start at the site of the afternoon corn roast. You do a ride and come back and everyone is there eating corn, munching chicken and drinking lemonade at pretty much the same time.  It is simply wonderful!

It is decidedly "old fashioned": I am happy to say.

And I did not think we were supporting them as much as they were supporting us.  I always thought of them as generous to give us a large chunk of their parking lot to do our multiple group starts from.

I cannot fathom why someone would think that chowing down to roast corn, chicken and cold lemonade was supporting some event.  It always felt to me like eating great food with great people at just the time I wanted it.  The event always seemed to be supporting me.

No club event can compare to the Corn Roast Ride in terms of the rewards waiting for the rider at the end.  (IMO)

Try it sometime.

Re: The corn Roast

Yes Ed,
I participated in the last year's corn roast.  It was delightful.
But I believe it doesn't warrant a black out date every year.
Just how many times can one do the Corn Roast?
How many time can one do the Flatlands?
How many times can one do the Tour de Chase or
Tour de Bowleys or some others that I lead.
It is sort of like been there; done that.
The scenery never changes and probably the routes don't either.
We as cyclists ride lot of roads in Baltimore County,as well as Howard, Anne Arundel,& Harford counties, do we support events in those counties in gratitude for riding those roads?
I am leading a ride in Talbot County in August.   I have no problem with someone leading a 10-12 and/or casual ride on the western shore on the same date.
I understand that there will be cyclists who won't want to travel to Easton, Md, but what I am doing is giving them someplace different; a choice. Not a choice whether to ride under the BBC flag or not ride at all, but a choice of which ride, whether a hilly one on the western shore or flat one on the eastern shore.
At this time, there probably isn't another 10-12 pace ride scheduled on Aug 22.  This date isn't blacked out.
Is there a routine in this new calendar prohibiting two rides of the same genra from posted?

Re: The corn Roast

Bud,
This seems to be the current BBC policy, as cut and pasted from the ride posting instruction page-

"Be Fair and Courteous -- If you are going to post a competing ride in a particular category contact the ride leader of the originally scheduled ride to discuss the situation."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Competing ride'?? = ANY additional ride in same category ?
'Competing ride'?? = additional ride that is similar in length & or location / terrain in same category ?

Re: The corn Roast

Hi Carl,
I would image any casual or 10-12 ride scheduled on the west side of the Chesapeake Bay would not be competing with the eastern shore ride as they would not be in the same locale nor similar terrain.

If you look at the calendar for June 5th you will see that there are two 10-12 mph rides scheduled.  So the calendar software does allow posting two rides in the same ride category.  I know of no plans to modify the calendar in this regard,

in general, if you want to see whether the calendar allows something, try to do it. That is how I found you CAN upload multiple files to the calendar--if you package them as a single "zip" file.

If you want to post another ride on the day of the Corn Roast Ride, just do it and don't make a big fuss about it.  The calendar software will not erase your hard drive*, a hit man will not be sent out, etc.  We are a club of people who like riding in groups and of mavericks.  Just use common sense when you post against another ride--as you seem to do.  And sometimes check with the person you are posting against.  (As I remember I posted against a ride Janet G. was leading a year or two ago. Her ride was 100 miles up in PA. I wanted to post a 50 mile ride closer to home. She said "Go for it" and I did.)

Let's keep going as we have been going.

cheers

*I had suggested this feature to Will, but he said it was too hard to implement.  Too many firewalls to break through.
