Re: Flatlands Tour Century

I'd like to offer my sincerest thanks to the folks who looked after me and Russ following our crash this afternoon -- especially Carol Bell, who met me at the emergency room; John Harris, who drove me home, and Steve Feldman, who rescued my bike.

EMTs showed up in practically no time, and everyone at Union Hospital in Elkton was very nice.... even though they told me to stay off the bike for a week to give the concussion time to heal some.

Russ says he had a full 100 miles on his computer and a 20.0 mph average at the time of the crash. My computer says 99.6 miles at 19.8 mph. We rode together the whole time (in a glorious 11-person paceline). So, whose computer should I believe?

Note to Self:  Never again should you store your Mocha Gu in the same pocket of your Camelback as your keys.

Bill and Mark,  Thank you for the GREAT Three Covered Bridges ride from Frederick to Thurmont.  Huge turn-out and great weather.

Section of the B&A trail closed due to recent rains.
Forum: Road Problems

I recieved this yesterday in an email from the Oxon Hill Cycling group.

"LATEST REPORT FROM ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND PARKS:
We have additional (B&A) trail damage on the south side of the East West Bridge. The asphalt has not collapsed yet but the soil underneath is gone more than halfway under the trail. Had it not been for two walkers that alerted me, I would have driven the patrol vehicle over this and certainly would have gone through. It is safe to say that the B&A Trail is closed from the 7 mile marker to the 8 mile marker - this will include the washout just north of Earleigh Heights that was reported yesterday and the new problem at the East West Bridge.

From Earleigh Heights south, the B&A Trail is in good condition and is open all of the way. There is some tree debris along the trail but that is expected with all of the rain. If you are planning on riding north I would begin your ride from the Jumpers Shopping Center.I am getting ready at this moment to finish my patrol on the north end and the John Overstreet Connector. I will send another e-mail if there is any closure or damage up north. If you are riding south, you should be fine from Earligh Heights to the 0 mile marker."

Video of Frence news car hitting riders
Category: Social

The video of the french news car taking out the riders in yesterday's Tour de France played twice this morning on WBAL.'s early morning newscast.  The sportscaster reporting on the video said he "thought" the riders were OK; apparently didn't bother to check it out.  I guess if they had died, it would have "made the news".  Crashes make good TV.  I couldn't find the site on WBAL's website for comment so I came here to vent.

There are sections of the BWI trail open, BUT nearly every place the trail nears a road or driveway, there is a huge pile of plowed snow blocking the trail.
