Handlebar Cafe on Caroline Street Open - Jeffrey H. Marks
Category: Social

The handlebar cafe is 2 blocks from my office, so I stopped in this morning on my way to work.  They've done an amazing job with the place...you all should make  a point to stop in, get a cup of coffee and leave a message for Marla..'FINALLY, YOU'RE OPEN!!

Bike virginia has announced the locations for the 2017 tour.  For those of you
who attended in 2013, it will feel familiar!

My hero,
It's a Cateye Astrale or Astrale 8 you're looking for.  I've seen them on ebay quite often because I still use them.  Let me know if you can't find one, I probably have several of them somewhere in my bike work area.

I'm selling my black size 47 (more on that later) 2 month old Louis Garneau Course 2LS cycling shoes. They shrank to size 45.5 or 46, so anyone who wears those sizes would be comfortable in them.  They have 2 boas across the top so they are micro-adjustable across the top of your foot.  You're free to put your
cleats on them and try them out before you buy them.

$100.00 OBO

Just don't....
Category: Social

I noticed my (relatively) new Louis Garneau Course 2LS shoes (with 2 boas)were really tight about 3/4 of the way through the Tour of Frederick metric a weeks ago. When I got home, I put on a different pair of the same basic shoe and whoa...the original pair had shrunk about a half size!  The only thing I could think would have caused this is leaving them in the back of my car over several very HOT days.   So.....as Jgo reminded me earlier today, different shoes and different material will react differently to a hot car over several days...but why take a chance? These were comfortable slightly expensive shoes that now are unwearable.  Don't leave your cell phone, CDs or cycling shoes in a closed car in hot weather.   I'll post the shoes in our sales forum...they're fine for someone who wears normally a 45.5 or 46 sized cycling shoe.

Looking for a new century....
Category: Social

My standard late August favorite the Bay Country Century was cancelled recently,
so I'm looking for 100 miles I've never ridden before.  I came across this website
'Ohbike.org/events' (thanks, Mtube!) and found the 'Tour De Frederick' on the 13th.  Anyone done it before?  I'm assuming great scenery and low traffic roads,
but anyone have any other experiences?

thanks,

Bill Gary

Please let the rest of us know if you're alright!!!

Ride cautions...
Category: Social

This is a challenging ride in Howard and Montgomery counties, made more so by forcasted high winds on Sunday.
There are shortcuts we can take before lunch (left at Old Frederick at mile 26.9) or after lunch (straight at Florence at mile 49.3 up to Old Frederick)
if the wind becomes a problem.

Also...we'll be crossing or turning at several high trafficed intersections, including Rt 97, Rt 108,Rt 27 and Folly Quarter road. Managing these situations successfully requires a mix of judgement, experience and a rear view mirror.  Hopefully, you'll be bringing all 3 to the ride.

Please contact me at billc_gary@prodigy.net if you have any questions about the ride.

Bill Gary

Well, hey Rando Bob!!  We'd be honored to have you with us whenever we
do the Rando Bob Chesapeake Beach century within the next few weeks.

How have you been??  And thanks for the updated RB CBC cue sheet!
