Due to the shifting weather forecasts, I am moving the Ranger Station Loop to Saturday 8/18 (tomorrow) instead of Sunday.

What was the condition of the NCR trail(other than the downed trees :-) I haven't been on it in a few years, but I recall it gets pretty sloppy after heavy rains.  There is a 10-12 ride scheduled for the northern part of the NCR trail (above White Hall) for tomorrow 7/28/18.

Looking for a used mountain bike
Category: Technical

Want to buy a used mountain bike for city commuting. This is for my son, he's 5'9" tall, looking to spend $200-$300.

Contact Mary (text to 443-676-0891 or email meryan@comcast.net)

The town of Emmitsburg, MD is having a Heritage Day festival that includes bike rides of various lengths. There is no registration or fee required.

Info on the bike rides:

KCSF is not a blackout date/weekend.  Blackout dates are indicated on the ride schedule (e.g. June 2, June 23).

This NY Times article says older cyclists' muscles and immune systems are more like 30-year-olds.  But we knew that.

Old Frederick Rd. closed near Utica Park
Forum: Road Problems

BBC has several different rides that start at Utica Park in Frederick. We usually take Old Frederick Rd. from Rt. 15 to get to the park.  Old Frederick Rd. is currently closed from Old Frederick Terrace going north. This web page
https://frederickcountymd.gov/5052/Roads-Closed
says it is closed for bridge construction. If you look at the map (click on the link) it looks like Utica Park is not accessible.  I sent an email to their Office of Highway Operations asking them to verify whether it is accessible.

Peace-a-Pizza ride is CANCELLED for Saturday 7/29/17 due to forecast of rain and flooding.

Forum: Riding Style

The latest newsletter from AARP has an article about bicycling in Maryland (it only focuses on bike trails, not riding on public roads).  It includes a quote from Bob Carson.

Grist Mill Trail is still open
Forum: Road Problems

In Patapsco State Park off Rt. 1 in Elkridge, the Grist Mill Trail and the bridge to Ilchester/River Rd. was supposed to close last fall during the removal of the dam. It is currently open and there are no signs concerning any upcoming closure.

Also, the Old Elkridge parking lot on nearby Railroad Ave. now has signs saying Private Property, Cars Will Be Towed.  So we definitely can't use that as a ride start, and everyone should avoid parking there.
