New to area... Towson to Hunt Valley?
Category: Social

I live nearby, in Lutherville.  Your second route is better. The Beltway interchange on Dulaney Valley Rd. is still pretty scary, but better than York Rd. or Charles St. It's 5 lanes wide at that point. If you are going north on Dulaney Valley, you can make a left on Charmuth Rd. (there's a left-turn-only lane and a traffic light) and take Charmuth all the way to Ridgely.  Charmuth is a residential street.

You should test drive these routes during your normal commute time, of course, since rush hour traffic is completely different than weekend traffic, and afternoon rush hour is usually worse than the morning.

Nathan Krasnopoler, the 20-year-old Hopkins student who was right-hooked and run over by an 83-year-old driver in February, died yesterday.

The article says that the family settled their civil suit, and they insisted that the driver permanently give up her driver's license.

Baltimore Sun story mentions BBC
Category: Social

There is an article in the Baltimore Sun that mentions the BBC, specifically the Instructional Ride Series with quotes from Gordon Peltz, and a link to our web page.

In the next few weeks, ride leaders might want to watch out for newbies showing up at their ride starts after reading the article, totally unprepared to ride 30 or 40 miles.  I biked to work on Bike to Work day, and met a guy who didn't even have a water bottle or a cage to hold one. We were biking 12 miles from downtown Baltimore to Towson/Lutherville.

Patrick,
Welcome!  You and your girlfriend should come to the Instructional Ride series which starts May 1st. It's for people who are new to road biking or whose skills are rusty. Click on the "Instructional Rides" link in the Main Menu on the left.

I got a "404 Page Not Found" error when I clicked on the link to the Craigslist ad.  Just remove the period at the end of the string and it works fine.

Finally, the Baltimore Sun has an update:
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/cr … accid.html

"Police have received numerous inquiries from citizens and city officials about a report in which a police spokesman said charges were not likely to be filed, which the department's chief spokesman now says was premature. "  Looks like all those phone calls and emails have made a difference.  And please tell your friends & try to be at 39th St. & University next Wednesday 3/9 at 5:30pm.

The Baltimore Sun hasn't  had any updates on this, but the family of Nathan Krasnopoler, the young man who was hit, has created a Facebook page with updates on his condition:

Free Yakima roof rack parts
Category: Technical

Free to good home: Yakima roof rack components listed below.  These actually come from two different roof racks, 10-15 years old, but all parts are listed are in good condition, no rust.
(4) locking towers (keys included), currently mounted to the factory roof rack of a 1995 Subaru wagon, which is going to the junkyard soon.
(2) 48" tubular crossbars
(2) trays with straps for bike's rear wheels; each tray is just 8" long.  I recommend buying new rubber straps because of their age, $26 per pair at REI,  http://www.rei.com/product/655285
(1) skewer mount for front fork
(2) wheel forks (see http://www.rei.com/product/679452 )
(2) ski mounts
Call Mary at 443-676-0891 if you are interested in some or all of these parts.

Change in Sequence

Stephanie,  I've made the same request numerous times ever since the new website and calendar went live.  Ed Cahill has created a poll in the "Website Suggestions" Forum.  Go over there and vote that you want the calendar to run Sunday to Saturday, not Monday to Sunday.
