Cyclist hit by cow
Category: Social

Take a look at the provided link and click on the story about a woman hit by a cow.  Yes that is not a typo she was hit (hard) by a cow.  This is a friend of mine that is currently training for Race Across America Team - Donate life.  If you notice from the picture all the cows hooves are off the ground at the time of impact which means she got the full force of the cow.  Had it been me, they would still be looking for body parts.  One tough woman.  Though her frame did not fair too well.  Talk aboout taking one for the team.

When your there please consider going to the donate section.  Melanie would applicate a little donation even if its $2.  These people are doing this to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.  And anyone who knows me knows that is a cause dear to my heart.  Don't forget RAAM finished in Annapolis is late June.

A kidney transplant recipient from Texas is currently on a journey to ride his bike in 50 states, for 50 miles in 50 days.  His name is David Landsberg, see link below.

http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2011/ju … croll=1824

David will be in Maryland on July 14th and will be riding out of Twenty20 Cycling in Hampden http://twenty20cycling.com  We should be starting about 7 a.m and it will be a 10 mile loop which Dave and I will do 5 times.  The shop will be open early and cue sheets will be available.  You can ride with us for 5 or the whole 50 miles.

Dave is not asking for donations his main goal is to increase awareness for organ donation.  Currently approximately 18 people in the U.S. die each day awaiting a transplant.  There are about 100,000 people in the U.S. on the list, 2,000 in Maryland alone.

My personal story is I had a transplant at age 13 without out I'm sure I would not have seem my 14th birthday.  I just turned 52.

If you can't make it and are not an organ donor, please consider it. You can register here.

And questions or comments please either ask here or email.

Also please feel free to reprint any or all of this message.  I'm only a BBC member so posting this on other local bike clubs sites would be appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

The question that keeps going through my mind is if the cyclist would still be alive today had the driver stopped and called for help right away?

If I'm reading it right the accident took place about 5:30 and the driver called at about 6:30 and the police were on the scene.  That means it may have been up to an hour where this poor woman was laying on the side of the road.  If anything for that the driver should be punished.  I hope the family files a civil law case.

The story ended up running early, last night.  I'm sure everyone was watching the Tour so if your interested follow the link and click on "Medicine to Medals" under video list.  Lots of shots of the club jersey.

Brain Injury Association Sponsors this fundraising ride out of Westmin

I've done this ride a few times.  And yes the rest stops are among the best I've seen.  But for me the real treat is you don't get the standard event t-shirt, they give out cycling socks!  If you go to the website you can see this year's design.

I've been a BBC member for a few years now.  Well FOX news is doing a feature story on me since I've had an organ transplant for 37 years and will be competing in the Transplant Games in Madison WI in a couple of weeks, cycling of course.  They interview me the other day and filmed me riding my bike.  Of course when asked to be dressed in cycling gear for the interview and subsequent ride I of course grabbed my BBC jersey.  The topic of bike riding did not come up all that much during the interview so I did not get a chance to give the club a plug but the jersey will be on the news nevertheless.

It is scheduled to air on the 10 O'clock news on the 27th and the following moring.
