Civil War Century - September 6, 2025

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this a successful event! You uphold its national reputation, attracting the enthusiastic riders pictured above, who traveled all the way from San Diego! While the majority come from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia, we attracted riders from twenty-three states! Our final registration count approached 900 and we netted a positive financial outcome on the same order as last year. This year we had good luck with the weather with just a passing sprinkle in the afternoon.

As riders returned, we were greeted by beaming smiles and kind words sharing gratitude for everyone encountered on the route. Your service is appreciated, whether you were directing parking, checking in arriving riders, road marshalling in the Gettysburg National Military Park, providing SAG service, serving at rest stops in Gathland State Park, Mt Aetna Fire Dept, Fairfield Fire & EMS, Barlow Fire Dept, Loys Station Park, or the Thurmont headquarters, as well as working behind the scenes with road marking, procuring supplies, or transporting them. It took over a hundred volunteers to achieve success and we hope that you look forward to it again.

Over the 25-year run of the Civil War Century event, the club has nurtured strong relationships with the Town of Thurmont, the National Park Service (Gettysburg NMP), Maryland Dept of Natural Resources (Gathland), and Frederick County Parks and Recreation (Loys Station). Our relationships with volunteer fire companies hosting rest stops and the Columbia Amateur Radio Association (CARA) providing SAG communications are strengthened with donations. Leftover food and monetary grants are much appreciated by the Thurmont Food Bank, a neighbor to our Thurmont headquarters. All this is part of an event that provides a substantial part of the club’s operating budget. Let’s work together to keep this event going!
