The Baltimore Bicycling Club and COVID-19

Dear Baltimore Bicycling Club members,

As you know, the entire world is engulfed in the COVID-19 outbreak which the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a pandemic. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the WHO have provided guidance on how to best combat the virus that causes COVID-19. This guidance includes avoiding crowds and practicing “Social Distancing,” where we stay 6 feet from other people. These actions will help slow the spread of the virus.

Gary Flax, Mary Ryan, and Pat Lapensee promoting BBC

BBC launched our 2020 outreach effort at the Stop, Swap, and Save event in Westminster on Sunday Feb 9.  Offering a free colorful bike key chain (which has our club name and web site imprinted) to those who stopped by our table, our group of volunteers informed our booth visitors about our weekly rides and special events.  We invited new bikers and those getting back into biking to attend our free Instructional Series and we informed those who might want to try biking with us that it isn't necessary to be a member to ride with us.  We handed out printed material to promote our multi-day events, including the Kent County Spring Fling coming up during Memorial Day Weekend..

Water Over the Falls

2019:  Water Over the Falls For our summer vacation “Plan B” kicked in when Evie’s knee worsened. So we packed up the van and drove to the Niagara region of Ontario. It’s a beautiful bike-friendly area. We enjoyed staying at universities (Brock U in St. Catherine’s & Niagara U in Welland) and riding every day. Cycling past Niagara Falls, you feel the magic of its thunderous roar into the Niagara River. Cycling beside the mighty ships on the Welland Canal—watching them rise and fall in the many locks—never gets old. This bike path follows the historic canal between Lakes Erie and Ontario. Revisiting Niagara-on-the-Lake—a UNESCO World Heritage Site--with its wonderful theatre, vineyards, and lake views was a joy. We had 2 plus weeks cycling in this terrific region. We’ll be back!
