Group Rides Every Weekend, All Paces!
Tailgate Potluck
On Sunday May 21, more than 35 BBC members enjoyed our first ever Tailgate Potluck ride -- despite the damp, cool, and cloudy weather and a first time ever ride start at Howard County's Western Regional Park.
The rides of 60, 50, and 25 miles were modifications of familiar club rides in the cue library.
The food, mostly provided by the riders and a little from the club, was very much enjoyed. As can be seen from the photo, tailgates were not needed as we snagged an unused pavilion with tables.
The club's new banner was used for the first time. Members will be seeing it again at future club events.
The favorable response from the participating riders may well lead to a few more potluck rides this year at this location or other locations. Members are encouraged to give the Board any suggestions for future dates and locations.
Movers and Shakers
The committee and its hard working group of volunteers pose for a group picture at the annual Spring Social (March 25). Without these dedicated workers, this terrific event would not have been the huge success that it was. Many thanks go out to Ed & Mary Jarcy, Pam Ellis, Gene Young, Howard Saltzman, Stephanie Jeram, Rich Burns, Andy & Joy Bauer, Bud Lippert, Nabil Ali, and Jim Gagne for their contributions (Renee Rees, Mary Ryan, Cindy Wyatt, & Ken Philhower not in photo). The committee of Gloria Epstein and Evie & Mike Reinsel organized a fun evening with lots of socializing and great food. Read the article to find out more about the event.
Weekend in Lancaster 2016
Max the bull dog welcomed tandem riders Mike and Evie Reinsel to the Lapp Valley Farm, one of the favorite stops on the BBC's Weekend in Lancaster event this past fall. The Reinsels enjoyed the beautiful farm setting, homemade ice cream, and especially the wonderful hospitality of Max. Couldn’t take him with us, though! Read the article to find out about this terrific bike weekend in the Amish heartland.
East Meets West: Finland 2016
Evie & Mike Reinsel loved their cycling trip in Finland this past summer, especially the terrific and unique accommodations they were able to get each day. Just one example was historic “Herrasmanni,” nestled in a lush forest—flush with wild berries and mushrooms for the picking, and right along the “ox” road, the oldest road in Finland. Read their article for more details about their Finnish adventure.
Barcelona to Madrid in 2016
Recently two BBC members joined two other adventurers for a cycling expedition across Spain. Read Stuart Bonning's summary of the trip and see more photos in this BBC article.
Greencastle Great Escape: 2016 Edition
The second annual Greencastle Great Escape drew a 50 percent increase in registered riders over the previous year, with many new faces among the participants. At first it looked like the weather was going to put a damper on our riding, but – once again – we managed to dodge the bullet and enjoyed three glorious days of cycling in south central Pennsylvania's beautiful Cumberland Valley. Read more about the riding, food, and fun in Phil Manger's article.
2016 Kent County Spring Fling
BBC's Kent County Spring Flight (KCSF) was a great success. The weather was beautiful and even the rain predicted for Monday held off. A highlight is that Frank and Kathy Anders who ran KCSF for ten years participated in 2016. See photos of cyclists at the Washington College Campus. We are looking forward to an even better event in 2017.
